Global Connections represents the Lausanne Movement in the UK, in conjunction with the Evangelical Alliance (UK).
The first Lausanne Congress took place in Lausanne, Switzerland in July 1974 and produced the Lausanne Covenant. This Covenant has helped to define evangelical theology and practice, and has set the stage for many new partnerships and alliances.
In October 2010, the third Lausanne Congress met in Cape Town, South Africa. This Congress was run in association with the WEA and brought together over 4,000 Christian leaders from 198 nations from all over the world in order to reflect upon and discuss key issues relating to seeing God at work in the world. In addition many other took part through the 650 GlobaLink sites in 91 countries. The Cape Town Commitment was developed as part of the congress and is both a declaration of belief and a call to action. The WEA have said: "We urge you to prayerfully read this document. We are urging all our members to distribute this document widely for serious reflection and stimulation”. The document can be downloaded for free from the Lausanne website.
The Cape Town Commitment is also available in booklet form and can be ordered from the Lausanne Books pages on the website. Other books available include a Bible Study guide linked to the Cape Commitment and Christ our Reconciler, as well as other booklets in the Didasko Files series.
